For example, when a trumpet bell crook is crushed so badly that even the smallest dent ball won't work, this tool will raise the dent far enough to begin using a dent ball and driver.

Or when the job requires disassembly of the instrument to get to the dent, such as on a baritone saxophone neck, the Solder-On Dent Knocker can be used to raise the dent to restore the pipe to its approximate original dimensions.
